It’s not difficult to get your hands on a BBQ sauce at the grocery store today. There are a lot of flavor options to pick from to make a nice BBQ meal.
But why not make a barbecue sauce? Aside from tasting better than ones placed on the shelf at the grocery store, you create a perfect BBQ sauce with lots of fun ingredients like Jack Daniel’s whiskey.
Wait, is this okay for kids?
While the BBQ sauce is spirited with whiskey to infuse a sweet, spiced flavor, the cooking process cooks off the alcohol, making it safe for children to consume. To sweeten the sauce, add brown sugar and molasses and vinegar and ketchup to infuse a lot of flavors.
This tasty sauce can be slathered over chicken barbecue, burgers, ribs, pulled pork, or any grilled or slow-cooked meat.

Ingredients:
- 1/4 Cup Finely Chopped Yellow Onion
- 2 Tablespoons Butter
- 1 Tablespoon Chili Powder
- 2 Teaspoons Thyme
- 2 Tablespoons Minced Garlic
- 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

- 1 Tablespoon Paprika
- 1 cup Ketchup
- 1 Tablespoon Ground Mustard

Note: for hot sauce, add 1 tsp of cayenne for hot sauce or ½ tsp for medium sauce. But for a mild sauce, do not add cayenne.
Steps
- Grab your cutting board and knife and chop the yellow onion about ¼ cup. Also, measure 2 tablespoons of pre-minced garlic or minced your fresh garlic cloves about 2 tablespoons.
- Using your medium saucepan, mix the finely chopped yellow onion, garlic and butter. Place the mixture on med-high heat to saute for a few minutes until you get a light golden and tender result.
- Add the ketchup to the sauteed garlic and onion and simmer on low heat.
- Add the other dry spices or ingredients and stir properly.
- Pour the reaming liquids or ingredients, including the Jack Daniel’s Whiskey, into the saucepan and mix well.
- Simmer the barbecue sauce for about half an hour until you get a thickened BBQ sauce.
- Take the yummy result off the heat. You can add an extra ½ tablespoon of Jack Daniel’s Whiskey to the sauce and stir for a more prominent flavor.
- Allow the delectable BBQ sauce to chill before storing it in an airtight container to share with your friends or use later.
What’s the Shelf Life of the Jack Daniels BBQ sauce
It’s important that the sauce is sitting in the fridge for longer shelf life. In my experience, both recipes lasted about a month in an airtight container without going bad. I cannot guarantee it will stay good past that.
More so, I’ve made bulk batches of these recipes and frozen them for the long term. It stays good and perfect for four months. The most important thing is giving it a lot of time to thaw and store in a fridge and not in your cabinet at room temperature.
